New Democrat Coalition Celebrates Addition of New Member Rep. Troy Carter

With nearly 100 Members, NDC Remains the Largest House Democratic Ideological Caucus

Today, New Dems unanimously voted to induct Representative Troy A. Carter Sr. (LA-02) as the Coalition’s newest Member. Now at 98 members strong, the New Democrat Coalition remains the largest House Democratic ideological caucus. New Dems are excited to work with Rep. Carter to advance policies that create opportunities for all Americans and spur economic development in communities across the country.

“New Dems are thrilled to welcome Representative Troy A. Carter Sr. to the New Dem family and work together to deliver real results for the American people,” said NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01). “Rep. Carter comes to the New Democrat Coalition with great enthusiasm for and dedication to our mission of advancing innovative and forward-thinking policies to strengthen our economy and create opportunities for all Americans to succeed. New Dems are laser-focused on lowering costs for families and growing the economy, and Rep. Carter will be an important partner in building on the progress Democrats have made on these priorities.”

“It is long past time to change the narrative that Congress is the opposite of Progress, and I believe the New Democrat Coalition will play a powerful role in developing solutions to America’s biggest challenges,” said Congressman Troy A. Carter Sr. (LA-02). “When people of differing ideologies and backgrounds come together with shared goals and in good faith, we can accomplish so much for the American people. I am thrilled to join the ranks of the New Democrat Coalition today and look forward to advancing the Coalition’s ongoing efforts to bridge the partisan divide and achieve economic justice.”

Rep. Carter represents Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District, which runs through the southeast of the state from Baton Rouge down to New Orleans, where he was born and raised. Former New Dem and current Senior Advisor to President Biden Cedric Richmond previously represented this district. Rep. Carter is currently a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Small Business Committee.
