New Democrat Coalition Prioritizes Long-Term Legislative Action to Deliver for Americans

Today, the New Democrat Coalition, led by Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01), released the below statement pushing for legislative action that will produce long-term results for the American people.

“Despite slim majorities in the House and Senate, we still have nine and a half months left in this Congress to pass legislation that will create opportunities and improve the lives of Americans.

“There is so much work to be done. New Dems are committed to passing a bipartisan innovation bill that will secure our supply chains and tackle inflation, a reconciliation bill to finally act on climate, lower everyday costs, and reduce the deficit, and other bipartisan bills as the President called for in his State of the Union address. All of this is possible this year. But, it will require the sustained focus of our Democratic Caucus to achieve these lasting results.

“The American people didn’t just elect a Democratic majority in Congress: they overwhelmingly elected President Biden to unify our country and lead us forward. Where legislative progress cannot be made on our imperative priorities, New Dems support the President and his Administration taking executive actions that reflect the priorities of the American people, are developed in consultation with Congress, and have strong consensus among Congressional Democrats. Our members support executive actions to strengthen the Affordable Care Act to lower costs and expand access as well as actions that will promote American leadership and values on the global stage.

“New Dems are the majority makers in Congress, and our members are critical to maintaining Democratic control of the House. Our constituents sent us to Congress to deliver. We must take advantage of the Democratic majorities we have and focus on passing long-term, durable legislative solutions in 2022.”
