New Democrat Coalition Endorses Chips Act for America to Lower Costs, Secure Supply Chains, and Protect U.S. National and Economic Security

Today, the New Democrat Coalition (NDC) endorsed the Chips Act for America and called on Congress to send this package to the President’s desk as soon as possible. Since last year, the NDC has led the charge on a bipartisan innovation bill and called for urgent action on this legislation as part of our Action Plan to Fight Inflation. NDC Chair Suzan DelBene (WA-01) released the following statement on the Coalition’s endorsement:

“From the beginning, the New Democrat Coalition has been a key player in moving, shaping, and negotiating the Chips Act for America through Congress to ensure it lowers costs for Americans, strengthens supply chains, fights inflation and boosts American global leadership. In light of Putin’s energy crisis and and the consolidation of semiconductor manufacturing overseas, it’s more important than ever that we quickly pass this legislation to increase production of critical goods and technologies in the U.S. to help secure both our economic and national security.

“As champions of the Chips Act for America, New Dems made passing this legislation a core component of our Action Plan to Fight Inflation and our Affordability Agenda. Our members also secured several key priorities including $1 billion in funding for NDC Chair Emeritus Kilmer’s RECOMPETE pilot program. This legislation will provide resources to create good paying jobs and lasting economic growth in persistently distressed communities. I’m incredibly proud of the work our coalition has done to advance this legislation, and we will continue working to ensure it makes it to the President’s desk as soon as possible.”

The Chips Act for America will invest $52 billion in domestic chip production, strengthen research and development through the National Science Foundation, support regional tech hubs to create jobs and spur innovation in new parts of the country, diversify our STEM workforce, and expand access to American-made 5G technology.

New Dems will continue pushing for policies to keep America competitive, including by passing legislation to reform our immigration laws, improve our education system, strengthen ties with our allies and close trading partners, and make additional improvements to secure global supply chains.
