New Dems Defend Biden Administration’s Support for American Solar Power
Today, New Democrat Coalition Trade Task Force Chair Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) and Climate Change and Clean Energy Task Force Chair Scott Peters (CA-50) released a statement urging the Biden administration to continue to ensure a swift and orderly transition for the domestic solar industry. Solar energy is critical to lowering energy costs for families, creating American jobs, and facilitating the energy transition to combat climate change.
“As climate and trade leaders of the New Democrat Coalition, we support the administration in developing our domestic clean energy production to meet our climate goals and investing in American manufacturing to create good-paying jobs here in the U.S. Last Congress, we welcomed the President’s actions to support the American solar industry and our clean energy transition through a two-year pause on new solar duties while we ramp up domestic manufacturing of solar energy components. This critical and temporary bridge allows the U.S. Department of Commerce to enforce our nation’s fair trade laws while giving American companies a chance to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technologies, including solar.
“We are concerned about retroactive impacts to the domestic solar industry if the two-year waiver of duties is not maintained and support the administration’s decision last year to give certainty to companies while they work to strengthen their supply chains. We remain steadfast partners of the Biden administration in our shared efforts to protect American jobs, increase domestic manufacturing, and meet our climate commitments.”
